once again be packed with thou-
sands of people for the annual
M ississippi Avenue Street Fair
on Saturday, July 14 from 10-a.m.
to 9 a.m.
The all-ages event will include
four stages of m usic, plus a k id s’
sta ge.
A com m unity-building event
that celebrates the neighbors, busi-
nesses and o rg an iz atio n s that
make their home in the M issis-
sippi Avenue neighborhood, the
street fair honors history and tra-
dition while em bracing diversity
and sustainability.
The street fair is sponsored by
the Historic M ississippi Avenue
B usiness A ssociation and the
B oise N eighborhood A ssocia-
tion. Part of the proceeds goes to
Boise-Eliot Elem entary and the
Albina Youth Opportunity School,

the party that will attract tens of

The exhibit also includes an in
teractive program ‘Not Everyone’s
Paradise’, which is a section that
examines the lives of those seem
ingly disenfranchised, including the
homeless, the mentally ill, elderly,
and drug addicted. “We try to tell
their stories too,” said Johnson.
The public often perceives m u
seums as dusty old places with a
bunch of dusty old objects that
you might find in grandm as attic,
said Johnson. “But Oregon H is

gage and interact with these ob
jects and with our own stories.
Oregonians can come to this build
ing and interact with their own
history in ways that is really excit
ing.”
