Exhibit Tells Story of Incarceration

121 N.W. Second Ave., invites the
public to a visual exploration of
graphic prints depicting American
internment camps for people of Japa
nese descent during World War II.
A free open house will be held on
Thursday, June 7, from 4 p.m. to 7
p.m. to launch the new exhibit: Roger
Shimomura: Selections from Shad
ows of Minidoka. The exhibit will be
on display through Sept. 2
Shimomura's bold and accessible
work captures a child's eye view of
America’s regrettable experiment
with concentration camps.
As one of thousands of children
imprisoned along with their parents
and grandparents, Shimomura's art
tells an important story and yet is
visually very welcoming.
It is in the juxtaposition of every
day 1940s life, and the accoutre
ments of prison life, whether that be
barbwire or armed soldiers keeping
watch, that Shimomura engages the
audience.
