A 2009 graduate and former
Rose Festival princess from
Jefferson High School in Port­
land is making great strides at
Clark Atlanta University in At­
lanta, Ga.
Kia-Lynette Carter was re­
cently named Miss Black and
Gold for 2012-13 as part of the
Alpha Phi Alpha academic schol­
arship pageant. The competition
showcased 10 young women
who aspire to obtain personal
growth and success in their lives.
Carter is a junior at Clark
Atlanta, majoring in mass me­
dia. She maintains a 3.0 grade
point average. •
“We as a family were so happy
to be there to support her as she
represented Portland,” said Cat
Carter, Kia-Lynette’s mother.
