Cinco de Mayo on the Waterfront
Mexican-American holiday embraces culture
A celebration of Cinco de Mayo will be
held at W aterfront Park, downtown, this
weekend, when residents from through­
out the city are welcom ed to enjoy live
entertainm ent, authentic food and a host
of activities for the whole fam ily from Fri­
day, May 4 through Sunday, May 6, from
11 a.m .to 11 p.m.
The 28th annual festival, which will pro­
vide a fun chance to learn about different
cultures while celebrating the M exican-
Am erican holiday, is presented by the
Portland G uadalajara Sister City A ssocia­
tion. The celebration opens with free ad­
m ission on Friday, betw een 11 a.m. to 3
p.m.
Established in 1984, the non-profit sis­
ter city group is dedicated to prom oting
Latino culture, arts, education, econom ic
and intercultural partnerships and good-
will betw een the cities o f Portland and
Guadalajara.
T ickets will be $8 for adults and $5 for
children and seniors. Children under 6-
years-old enter for free.

Maze’ Draws Kids
Children’s Museum’s outdoor
space is free and accessible to all
Portland Children’s Museum’s
free exhibit ‘Zany M aze’ is provid­
ing a unique opportunity for kids,
with a safe place to play outside.
Since breaking ground in Octo­
ber, visitors have been keeping an
eye on what’s happening outside
the museum’s grounds, which is
situated in Washington Park next
door to the Oregon Zoo at 4015 S. W.
Canyon Rd.
It’s been tough to keep it secret;
with children (and adults) peaking
through fences and pressing noses
against glass, it seems everyone is
trying to solve the mystery unfold­
ing in front of their favorite museum.
The maze was completed last month
and is now open to the public.
