Rabbit Romp Egg Hunts
Things will be hoppin’ Saturday,
April 7, when the Oregon Zoo hosts
its annual Rabbit Romp, an annual
celebration that is free with regular
zoo admission.
Rabbit Romp features candy
“egg” hunts every 20 minutes be­
tween 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Children
ages 3 to 10 are divided into age
groups and invited to hunt for eggs
filled with candy and prizes. Tod­
dlers 2 and under can participate in
a candy hunt organized especially
for them, and there will be a candy
hunt area for children with special
needs and their families. Rabbit
Romp festivities also include a pet­
ting zoo, games and photo opportu­
nities.
General admission is $10.50 for
ages 12-64; $9 for seniors, age 65
and up; $7.50 for children ages 3-11;
and free for those 2 and younger.

Event for Somalia
Famine Relief
Area residents are invited to join
an event to raise funds for the fam ­
ine in Somalia, as well as celebrate
the nation's rich and vibrant culture,
on Saturday, April 7, from 5 p.m. to
8 p.m. in Reed College’s Kaul Audi­
torium, 3203 S.E. Woodstock Blvd.
The student group Reedies for
Somalia has organized the event to
educate students and the commu­
nity on the ongoing crisis in Soma­
lia, deemed by the UN as the current
worst hunger crisis in the world.
After much research, the group
decided to send all funds to Islamic
Relief USA, a stable and transpar­
en t

whose mission is to “alleviate suf­
fering, hunger, illiteracy, and dis­
eases worldwide regardless of color,
race, religion, or creed, and to pro­
vide aid in a compassionate and
dignified manner,” according to the
agency’s website.
A uthentic Som ali cuisine will
be served, and there will be activi­
ties for children. The D haanto, a
traditional Som ali dance, will be
perform ed, and Som ali poets will
recite work in both English and
Somali. Reed anthropology pro­
fessor China Sherz will speak at
the ev en t, and stu d en t P aapa
hM ensa from G hana will perform
original music.
