Portland firefighters had an un
usual rescue Monday when a horse
fell into a septic tank in a northeast
Portland backyard.

The 34-year-old mare, named
Roxy, fell into a sinkhole created by
the old septic tank at Northeast Gertz
Road and 13th Avenue.
Firefighters used a hose and strap
to pull the horse to safety. Other
than a small cut on her leg, she
appeared to be fine.
