The afrobeat orchestra Seun Kuti and Egypt
80 brings its U.S. tour to Portland’s Mt. Tabor
Theater in southeast Portland on Friday, March
17.
Selected tracks from Africa with Fury: Rise,
the group’s latest album, will be performed.
Kuti heads up Egypt 80, an extraordinary
orchestra from Nigeria first fronted by his re
nowned father who died in 1997.
Kuti's call-and-response hooks, breakneck
tempos, and combative, topical lyricism firmly
sets the classic Egypt 80 sound in the modem era.
