Connecting youth
to movie making,
group interactions
The Northwest Film Center School of
Film continues to connect youth with the
burgeoning local film community, media
literacy, and moviemaking fundamen
tals with this year’s Summer Film Camp
for Kids and Teens.
Week long classes, plus an intensive
teen program, offer students hands-on
media education with all the excitement
of making and premiering their very own
film.

with the other kids," said Dave and Joy

in Digital Moviemaking last year. "She
started using the filming and editing skills
learned in class the very first day. Now
she continues with her own camera. She
had so much fun!"

From Oregon with Love Concert
Musicians to gather on
anniversary of Japan
earthquake and tsunami
On the one-year anniversary of the catastrophic
March 11 Japan earthquake and tsunami disaster,
Portland musicians will come together to raise
funds for Japan, letting it be known that Japan will
not be forgotten.
“From Oregon with Love 2012’’ - a benefit
concert in support of the Oregon Tomodachi Re
covery Fund - will take place on Sunday, March 11
at the Aladdin Theater, 3017 SE Milwaukie.
One year ago, the Tohoku region of Japan
suffered a record 9.0 earthquake. The earthquake
triggered a devastating tsunami that reached enor-

mous heights, destroying much in its path. While
tons of debris has been cleared and many residents
have been able to move out of evacuation centers
into temporary housing, there is still much to be
done to alleviate difficulties for Tohoku residents.
“From Oregon with Love 2012” benefit con
cert aims to extend support toward the Tohoku
area, while bringing local awareness to the issues
that remain for Japan. The concert will feature a
strong line-up of talented and caring musicians,
including a guest appearance by Thomas Lau
derdale of Pink Martini, along with Portland
Taiko, Michael Allen Harrison, Andrew Paul
Woodworth, The Devin Phillips Band, Kodo
Araki VI, and Marv and Rindy Ross (the Trail
Band), with many others.
Tickets are available through Ticketmaster at
ticketmaster.com or by phone 1-800-745-3000.
