are now featured in a new
exhibit on the second floor of
the Reed Opera House in dow n
town Salem.

Pioneers in Early O regon in
M arion and Polk C ounties, is
made possible through the part
nership of Salem M ulticultural
Institute and O regon N orth
w est Black Pioneers.
The free exhibit is open Tues
days through Fridays, from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m .; and Saturdays,
from noon to 4 p.m ., at the
W orld Beat G allery, located
on 189 L iberty S treet, NE,
Salem. The exhibit closes on
W ednesday, April 18.

provide names and descriptions
o f the m any w ays A frican
A m ericans have made O regon
history, taking their rightful
place am ong pioneers past and
present. O ther topics, include
a black Pioneer C em etery and
how the w hite com m unity in
teracted with blacks in M arion
and Polk counties.
Everyone is invited to the
opening reception on W ednes
day, Feb. 1, from 5:30 p.m. to
7:30pm .
