Turning the
page on a
divisive year

The year that just ended was
one of the most difficult and
divisive in American history.
Thirteen million Americans
remain out of work. Unemploy­
ment has ticked down to 8.6
percent overall, but it is still dis­
proportionately high in com mu­
nities of color.
As we begin the year, the
unemployment rate is 15.5 per­
cent for African Americans and
11.4 percent for Hispanics. In­
come inequality and poverty are
on the rise. Confidence in gov­
ernment is at an all-time low.

prosperity and personal fulfill­

League continues to grow so we
can have an even greater impact
on the movement for equality,
justice and economic opportu­
nity in America. Happy New
