Sylvester will be inducted into the
Oregon Music Hall of Fame during
a special concert on Saturday, Oct.
8 at 7:30 p.m. at the Newmark The­
ater, 1111 S.W. Broadway. Tickets
are $25 each to benefit music educa­
tion in the state of Oregon.
The concert will feature Johnny
& the Distractions and the Crazy
8's! Joining Sylvester as Hall of Fame
inductees this year are Wheatfield,
Jeffery Frederick & the Clamtones,
Sequel, Dharma Bums, Sam Henry,
Phil Baker, Bob Ancheta and George
Touhouliotis.

in 1963 from Jefferso n High
School. He began by playing with
his friend Isaac Scott in church
and before school in the entrance
of Jefferson. He played in several
soul bands for the next 20 years
while keeping his day jo b at a
trucking com pany and raising his
six children.
Oklahoma! - Portland Cen­
ter Stage presents a new produc­
tion of O kla­
homa! The all Afri­
can-American cast is set in an all­
black town of the Oklahoma terri­
tories. The musical tells the story
of cowboy Curly McLain and his
romance with farm girl Laurey
William. Shows run through Oct.
30 at the Gerding Theater at the
Armory, 128 N.W. 11th Ave.
FrightTown - Three most horrifying haunted houses
return to Memorial Coliseum for some Halloween hor­
ror this weekend. FrightTown plays Friday, Oct. 7
through Sunday, Oct. 9; Oct. 12-16, Oct. 19-23 and Oct.
25 through Halloween on Oct. 31. Tickets are $20 and
can be purchased at the door.

honor of the Port­
land Tim bers’ inau­
gural Major League
Soccer season, the
Pumpkin Patch farm
on Sauvie Island has
carved the club’s logo into their 5-acre com field maze.
Located at 16511 N.W. Gillihan Rd., the maze is open
every day this month from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tickets are
$5 for ages 6-12, $7 for ages 13 and up, and free for any
child five years and under.

Fun Bus to War and Tower of Power - Good in the
Growing up in Louisiana until his
family made the move to Oregon for
work when he was 11 years old,
Sylvester always had the gospel
and rhythm and blues roots of the
South in his playing.
The Norman Sylvester Band was
formed in the early 80's and has
featured many, many great musi­
cians and vocalists from the Com­
munity. Sylvester loves his music
family and fans. He and his band has
performed many benefits for causes,
school o u trea ch p ro je c ts and
needed fu ndraisers across the
Northwest.
The band is currently working on
their fourt all-original album to be
released this winter. Sylvester writes
from his experiences with family,
jobs, social concerns, losses and
also some with the humor of living
our lives.
Neighborhood and Juneteenth
Oregon are sponsoring a Fun Bus
to a live concert with War and Tower
of Power at the Spirit Mountain Casino. The
bus will leave Portland on Saturday, Oct. 22 at 2 p.m.

Annie Get Your Gun - The story of
rough and tumble Annie Oakley
and Buffalo Bill in a Wild West
show-within-a-show for all ages. Per­
formances continue through Oct. 16 at
Lakewood Center for the Arts, 368 S.
State St. in Lake Oswego.
Comedy at Mago Hunt -- All in the Timing, acollection
of six one-act comedy plays by award-winning play­
wright David Ives takes place this week in the Mago
Hunt Center Theater on the University of Portland
campus in north Portland. Performances at 7:30 p.m.
except for Sunday which is at 2 p.m. Admission $10.
Caracal Kittens on Exhibit -- Visitors are getting their
first glimpse of three 12-week-old caracal kittens at the
Oregon Zoo. The newborns have acclimated to their
new habitat and now have access to the caracal
enclosure in the Predators of the Serengeti exhibit until
2 p.m. daily.
Norman Sylvester Band - Boogie Cat Norman
Sylvester and his band perform Friday, Oct. 7 at the
West Linn Saloon; Saturday, Oct. 8 at the Oregon
Musical Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony; and Satur­
day, Oct. 15 at Halibut’s.
Mel Brown Live -- Portland jazz giant Mel Brown
performs at Salty’s on the Columbia every Friday and
Saturday night. Known as the “Gentleman of Jazz,”
Brown has a career spanning over 40 years.
Haunted House - The North Portland Eagles, 7611 N.
Exeter A ve., host “The House of Shadows,” a commu­
nity fundraiser haunted house with 20 percent of the
proceeds going to the Make a Wish Foundation.
Opens Friday and Saturday, Oct. 28-29 from 7p.m. to
11 p.m., and Sunday and Monday, Oct. 3 0 and 31, from
7 p.m. to 10p.m.
