hom a ! w ith a gospel concert, a show
tune chanteuse and the artw ork o f a
real O regon cow girl.
O klahom a! an all-A m erican m u ­
sical in an all-black tow n o f the
O k lahom a territories, tells the story
o f cow boy C urly M cL ain, and his
rom ance w ith farm girl L aurey W il­
liam . T he show opens Friday, Sept.
23 and runs through O ct. 30 at P o rt­
land C en ter Stage.
Part charm ing love story, part
stirring retelling o f A m erican his­
tory, and m any parts beloved songs
and stunning dance, P ortland C en ­
ter Stage is giving O k la h o m a ! a new
spin: In the 19th century O klahom a
T erritory, there w ere over 50 all A f­
rican-A m erican tow ns; in that sam e
period, one in three A m erican co w ­
boys w as black. C hris C o le m an ’s
p roduction w ill feature an all A fri­
can-A m erican cast, generating fresh
insights into a classic A m erican tale.

ater star, Em ily Beleele, through Oct.
15 and gospel m usic soloist and
choral director Lessie W illiam s from
O ct. 22 through O ct. 29.
