ABOUT THE B O O K & THE M OVIE!
Have you read the book?
Have you seen the movie?
Did you have a black
domestic in your family?
Were you a domestic?
Do you know someone
who was?
LET’S TALK ABOUT IT!
It began with family and friends
walking across the Clark College cam
pus. Now celebrating its seventh year,
the Kalani Rodrigues M em orial Schol
arship Run and W alk has grow n, at
tracting participants from across the
region.
The event in memory of Clark College
alumnus Kalani Rodrigues will be held
on Sunday, Sept. 25. A 1 OK run and 5K
run will begin at 9 a.m. A 5K walk will
begin at 9:20 a.m. The starting line is at
the Kim Christensen Soccer Field on the
Clark College main campus.
Rodrigues envisioned a community run/
walk event to generate awareness for
brain cancer and its treatment. He wanted
to be among those running in what he
called the “K-Rod” Run. But in Decem
ber 2004, Rodrigues died of brain cancer.
He was just 21.
In 2005, family, friends and commu
nity volunteers honored R odrigues’
dream by establishing the K-Rod Run/
Walk for scholarships and education in
the battle against brain cancer.
