Flu Shots for
Everyone Again
For the second y ear in a row ,
health experts are urging all A m eri
cans to get a flu shot, even though
the circulating strains o f flu have
not changed since the 2010-2011
flu season.
The U.S. Centers for Disease
C ontrol and Prevention said on
Thursday the recom m endation ap
plied to everyone over 6 m onths of
age — even those w ho got flu shots
last year against the same flu strains.
T h is y e a r’s v accin e p ro tects
against H IN I sw ine flu and tw o
other flu strains called H 3N 2 and
influenza B.
T he C D C said it w as possible
that im m unity provided from last
year's flu shots, w hich included
the H IN I pandem ic flu strain, may
have faded.
Eventually this season, the C D C
officials said, the five com panies
that m ake flu vaccine for the U.S.
m arket expect to provide 166 m il
lion doses o f vaccine. That com -
pares w ith 157 m illion doses d is
tributed last year.
