East Coast Earthquake
One of the strongest earthquakes ever
recorded on the East Coast shook build­
ings from South Carolina to New En­
gland on Tuesday and forced the evacu­
ations of parts of the U.S. Capitol, White
House and Pentagon. The 5.9 magni­
tude earthquake was centered about 35
miles northwest of Richmond, Va.

Former Blazer Disturbance
A man claim ed he was assaulted after
trying to sell marijuana to former Port­
land Trail Blazer Zach Randolph at his
home in West Linn on Sunday, after
a disagreem ent over price emerged
and led Jam es Beasley, 26, to be
beaten with pool sticks. According to
police, Randolph was not involved in
the fight, but this would be the sec­
ond violent incident involving his
friends this year.
Teen Grabs Officer’s Gun
Portland police arrested a 17-year-old
on Saturday after he became “combat­
ive” and grabbed an officer’s gun when
police wanted to search his car during a
traffic stop at Northeast Martin Luther
King Boulevard and Lombard. The
young man was booked into juvenile
detention with seven different charges.
