comedy, food, and drinks over a 20
block stretch of Northeast Alberta Street?
The day kicks of at 11 a.m. with the Kid’s Parade and
Comedy Show. Over 20bands will play throughout the
day on 3 different stages while over 150 vendors keep
locals entertained until the fair ends at 7 p.m. The beer
garden will remain open until 9:30 p.m. Event is free
with a suggested donation of $2.
Soapbox Derby - Enjoy the thrills and spills of the 15 th
Annual PDX Adult Soapbox Derby. Forty two teams,
including a few rookies and a 12-year racer will com­
pete on Saturday, Aug. 13h at Mt. Tabor Park. The 17th
Youth Soapbox Derby Races will be held Aug. 27. For

Japanese-American Folk Dance - Michelle Fujii, a
Japanese-American folk dancer, composer, and cho­
reographer as well as the artistic director of Portland
Taiko, presents “Choking,” at Ethos at Interstate
Firehouse Cultural Center, 5340 N. Interstate Ave.
Shows are 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 12
and 13. Only 70 tickets available per show.
Movies in the Park - All summer long, Portland’s
neighborhood parks will host free films from recent
hits to classics. Films begin at dark (8 p.m. - 8:45 p.m.)
with pre-movie entertainment starting at 6:30 p.m.
Rainouts will be called at5 p.m. For a complete sched­

Summer Reading - Multnomah County Library gives
kids an incentive to read over the summer months in
their 99th annual Summer Reading program. Studies
show that over the summer, students lose about two
months of reading comprehension skills. Kids aged
birth to high school students entering grade 12 are
welcome to sign up at any school library.

journey of exploration in the Chronicles of Narnia,
OMSI s new state-of-the-art exhibition, where visitors
will enter a three dimensional world that combines the
wonders of science withC.S. Lewis’ beloved fictional
books and blockbuster film series. The exhibition will
show through Sept. 25, and tickets are $2 with regular
museum admission.
