This month was originally named Sextilis in Latin,
because it was the sixth month in the original ten-
month Roman calendar. In 8 BC, after two months had
been added to the roman calendar, it was renamed in
honor o f Augustus Caesor, being the month o f some o f
his greatest triumphs (including the conquest o f Egypt).
