A u g u s t 3. 2011 3J3nriIanh (Observer A Passion for Fashion co n tin u ed fr o m p a g e 13 m ade w as put on display as fashion design o f the quarter. “School taught me the basics, and the m ajority o f the technical things,” she said. “ But every day I teach m y self and continue to e d u ­ cate m y self on different techniques and w ays to create designs.” N ow , four years since her g rad u ­ ation from A m erican Inter-Continen­ tal U niversity, she is w orking on her third fashions collection, w hich has m ade it very clear, the risk was w orth taking. “ I have been to show s during New York Fashion W eek, but I have never show n there,” said Page. “This is a first, and really a dream -com e true.” In 2010, she w as aw arded as the em erging designer o f the y ear at C harleston Fashion W eek for her collection M iam i Beach-C irca 1950, w hich w as her first show ing o f her original work. “N o m atter w hat obstacles you feel are in y our w ay, you need to pursue w hatever it is that is your d ream ,” said Page. “ I believe that w hen you pursue w hatever your dream is, opportunities arrive.” C urrently, she is w orking on her third collection Spring Breeze, which will be show n in N ew Y ork on Sept. 10. H er inspiration for her new work, she said, com es from the feeling you get w hen spring finally arrives. “ It is a beautiful feeling,” she said. "T he sky is beautiful and there are so m any w onderful aro m as.” Being raised as an A frican A m eri­ can and in Portland, she said, has also played a pivotal role in the grow ing success and inspiration o f h er brand. “G row ing up in Portland, w here everything is so free-spirited, d efi­ nitely affected m y designs because I use an editing eye, w here ev ery ­ thing is very m odest, w earable, fash­ ion forw ard and body flattering,” she said.
