Interstate Ave. Fujii reveals elements of her per­ sonal artistic journey, motivations and family history in the solo performance that waves taiko, dance and video, and delves into Fujii’s continual ex­ plorations to place “traditional” Japa­ nese art within the present. “Michelle has created a perfor­ mance with depth and intensity. She has managed to weave elements of her personal journey together with a his­ torical narrative of the Japanese-Ameri­ can experience and taiko," says Kisha X. Palmer, directorial collaborator. The 2nd floor of IFCC will be trans­ formed with installations that reflect the influences that have developed Fujii’s identity as a 4th generation Japanese-American, a daughter, and granddaughter of incarcerated Japa­ nese-Americans during World War II. Only 70 tickets are available per nightly show between the two entry times to ensure an intimate and unique experience. Shows are scheduled at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 5 and Aug. 6 and again next weekend on Aug. 12 and 13. The IFCC will open the second floor interactive gallery at 7:45 p.m. on Japanese-American folk dancer, com poser and choreographer each night the performances.
