Multidimensional World of Quilting
The O regon History M useum

quilts m ade by local and in ter­
national artists as part o f a show ­
ing that ends Sunday.
F o u n d ed in B ritain in 1985,
the traveling exhibit features art­
ists from the U nited States and
E urope. T o insert a local e le ­
m ent into the ex h ib it a selection
o f h isto ric q u ilts from the O r­
eg o n H isto rical S o ciety 's c o l­
lection w ere ad d e d to the e x ­
h ib it as well as quilt art from 10
co n tem p o rary q u ilters in O r­
egon.
T his unique exhibit presents
beautiful w orks o f art that delve
in to th e h u m a n e x p e rie n c e
through the m ultidim ensional
w orld o f quilting.
U sin g fab ric, b attin g and
stitching as their m edium , quilt
artists aim to extend the bound­
aries o f q u iltin g and ach iev e
w id er reco g n itio n fo r the quilt
as an art form . Q uilting inspira­
tion co m es fro m the m ost d i­
verse places; fro m graffiti and
landscapes to vibrant colors and
rich textures. T he com m on
thread is a p assion for creating
and ex p ressin g o n e se lf w hile
in tro d u cin g p eo p le to this art
form.
