Home Depot Helps Bethel Church
Bethel African Methodist Epis
copal Church in northeast Portland
is thanking Home Depot for its gen
erously in donating materials and
labor to rem odel the c h u rc h ’s
women’s restroom.
The gift was inspired by the non
profit Economic Development Co
operation that operates out of
Bethel. Home Depot recognized that
the EDC provides community out
reach through various programs in
the community.
The upgrade makes the restroom
accessible to people with disabili
ties to fulfill requirements of the
American with Disabilities Act.
Bethel members Bill and Paige
Walker where approached by an
employee of the Home Depot to
assist them in sourcing and pricing
the materials. After hearing of the
needs of the remodel, the store rep
resentative said he knew that Home
Depot could provide more than great
advice and materials and connected
them with a store manager and de
signer.
Home Depot organized a team of
volunteers to plan and remodel the
bathroom. Home Depot also do
nated the materials needed to resize,
replace and beautify the bathroom. .
The volunteers and church mem
bers worked together over three
days to complete the remodel.
Eighty Eight Keys Needs Volunteers
The Eighty Eight Keys founda
tion is looking for volunteers to
serve on two boards, one for its
music award program and the other
a student musician help group.
The non-profit foundation has
served the Portland community for
over 20 years by supporting local
performing artists through a public
awards ceremony and empowering
youth with education and instru
ment scholarships.
The music award program “An
Evening of Eighty-Eight Keys” is
designed to honor those who work
in the areas of sacred music and to
be a life changing experience for
young people. Students, partici
pants, and audience members come
from all cultures and economic back
grounds to enjoy a formal evening
of quality entertainment and expo
sure to an important cultural heri
tage.
The mission of the “Musicians
Make Better Students” program is
to give children attending schools
without music programs in our com
munity the opportunity to play music
in a structured after-school envi
ronment.
Serious applicants who can make
a difference to the organizations
through fundraising, education and
strategic planning are encouraged
to apply byemailing their resume’to
ptolbert@ctoregon.org . For more*
information, call John Tolbert at503-

We thought o f you
With love today.
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
And the days before that, too.
We think o f you in silence,
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is your memories,
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we ’ll never part.
God has you in His keeping,
We have you in our heart.
