It's the su m m er o f the autom obile
in the Portland Park B locks, and the
O regon H istory M useum is ready!
Pedal to the M etal, an original
exhibit about O regon's m otorsport
history, w ill explore the state's c o n ­
trib u tio n to a u to m o b ile d e sig n
through its rich history o f race car
builders and drivers w ho dedicated
their lives to this iconic sport. N ev er
before have so m any O regonian
ow ned race cars, m otorcycles and
engines been staged in one place at
one tim e.
T he exhibit o p en ed fo r the M e ­
m orial D ay w eekend and w ill c o n ­
tinue through Sept. 4.
In celeb ratio n o f the 100th a n n i­
versary o f the Indy 500, and in c o l­
laboration w ith the P ortland A rt
M useum 's A llure exhibit, Pedal to
the M etal w ill show case a b reath ­
taking display o f race cars, m o to r­
cycles, and engines.
V id e o fo o ta g e , p h o to g ra p h s ,
m em orabilia, and eye catching wall
graphics w ill provide the context
and history for the extraordinary
item s feature‘d in the exhibit.
E xhibit cu rato r R obert Joki has
been w orking w ith O H S to track
dow n fam ous race car drivers, build­
ers and e n th u siasts to piece to ­
g eth er this m agnificent show .
A significant portion o f this ex­
hibit will highlight O regon's connec­
tion to the fam ed Indy 500 by exhib­
iting Indy C ars that w ere driven or
designed by O regonians over the
years. The exhibit is also a R ose Fes­
tival Sanctioned event, and is de­
signed to pair w ith the Portland Rose
Festival’s R ose C up Race, which will
run its 51st race, June 17-19.
