sum m er cam ps return June 20, w ith
program s for children 4 years o f age
through eighth grade. C am ps are
filling quickly though, and fam ilies
should reg ister now to m ake sure
they d o n ’t m iss out.
C am p a c tiv itie s , s p e c ific a lly
planned for the interests o f each age
group, co v er everything from learn ­
ing about fur, feathers and scales to
d e sig n in g y o u r o w n zo o . E ach
w e e k lo n g c a m p in c lu d e s a rt
p ro je c ts, so n g s, sto rie s, sn ack s,
train rides, anim al visitors and in-
depth tours o f the zoo.
T urtle C am p is a new daylong
cam p especially fo r 4 -y ear-o ld s —
and a good w ay fo r young kids to
test the w aters if th e y ’ll be atten d ­
ing full-day kindergarten in the fall.
C am pers observe the m any patterns,
sizes, colors and shapes that an i­
m als com e in — and visit the brightly
co lo red lorikeets to feed them their
m o m in g ju ice! A m idday quiet tim e
breaks up the day, and lets y o u n g ­
sters recharge fo r an afternoon o f
m ore adventures.
O tter C am p is all about the G reat
N orthw est. F ourth-grade students
focus o ur native habitats and m eet
som e o f the anim als that share our
part o f the w orld, like cougars, black
bears and w olves. T h ey also visit
the zoo ’ s Trill ium Creek Fam ily Farm
and learn about the d ifferen ces, and
sim ilarities, betw een w ild and d o ­
m esticated anim als.
C ougar C am p lets fifth-grade stu­
dents experience the natural w o n ­
ders o f the w orld, w ithout leaving
the zoo. C o u g ar c am p e rs spend
each day exp lo rin g a different pan
o f the w orld through hands-on ac­
tivities, tours and culturally relevanl
p rojects.
A nim al Investigators introduces
sixth-grade students to anim al care,
providing an in sid er’s look at the
z o o ’s veterinary hospital and ani­
mal kitchen.
T he z o o ’s p ro fessio n al cam p
staff has been guiding children in
exploring and discovering the w on­
ders o f the zoo through fun, hands-
on learning since 1983. All staff
m em bers are screened for excellence
in program m ing for children. Every
staff m em b er is required to have
previous experience w orking w ith
children and m ost have classroom
experience.
M ost full-day cam ps are $287 for
the w eek. H alf-day Penguin cam p
fo r age 4 through kindergarten is

work to the stage in their summer
concert, Drums@Work,
Drums@Play. Three perfor­
mances, Friday, June 17 and
Saturday June 18 at 8 p.m.; and
Sunday June 19 at 2 p.m., at the
Winningstad Theatre, 1111S. IV
