New Look for Portland Police Cars
Bureau wants to

modem image
Portland had a new design for
its police patrol vehicles chang
ing from m ostly white colors to
nearly solid blue.
The process of redesigning the
look started earlier this year and
dozens of designs were considered.
The current design started with
the 1991 C hevrolet Caprice. The
2011 Portland Police cars will be
Ford Crown V ictoria's but the
Bureau is continuing to look at
the new C h e v ro le t C a p ric e s,
Dodge C hargers, and the Ford
Interceptor, which is based on the
Ford Taurus.
Each year, a percentage of Port
land Police patrol cars are rotated
out of service and sold at auction.
The cars are retired after five years
of service and some parts are re
cycled into the new replacement
cars - mainly radios, mobile data
