It’s sad because, they are fed this dream of going to a four year school and can go to the best of the best, but in the end what is it getting you?” Sullivan plans to transfer to PSU and further pursue a career as an endocrinologist or dietitian at Or­ egon Health Sciences University, a job she believes to be of high de­ mand. W hile some worry about debt and 1 inding a jo b after graduation, other students feel confident be­ cause they have chosen a career in a high dem and field like civil engineering and m edicine, and expect to get a good-paying job right away. “ It depends on what y o u ’re studying and what jobs are avail- Jose Martinez able,” said Misty Meisner a nursing major who believes she will have a job after she successfully completes her degree. One Hispanic-American PCC stu­ dent offers an alternative voice, “I am really appreciative of this country; this country has helped me get a job and a place to live,” said Jose Martinez, a Mexican native who says he has few worries and little to complain about. Martinez takes language classes at PCC so he can improve his En­ glish and keep his seafood restau­ rant job where a steady position relies on better communication with employers. “Americans are brave. They try hard to understand our language and culture,” he said. Martinez be­ lieves that giving permission to im­ migrant workers who lack proof of citizenship to work, would allow them to stay and contribute to the U.
