and Bobby McGee,” and “Summer­

Joplin died before she was able to
record the song, written for her by
Jerry Ragovoy and Jenny Dean,
with input and notes from Janis.
Completing her signature look with
round pink sunglasses, long wavy
locks, beads and bangles, vocal
phenom, Cat Stephani, will step into
the boots of Janis Joplin and perform
the blues singer’s iconic role.

cated in the Gerding Theater at the
Armory at 128 N.W. 11th Ave.
Rain or shine, Portland Sunday
Parkways begins its annual run
on Sunday, May 22, from 11 a.m.
to 4 p.m. in southeast Portland.
The free com m unity event, one
of five to be hosted in 2011, con­
nects parks and traffic-free streets
where thousands o f people can
gather for activities, music and
vendors.
All Portlanders are welcome to
join the fun and encouraged to
come connect with their neigh­
bors, be active and get some exer­
cise, including pedestrians and
bicyclists who will be able to safely
stroll and ride during the Sunday
Parkways.
The east Portland route connects
Lents, Bloomington, Ed Benedict
and Gilbert Heights Parks with seven
miles of traffic-free streets and a
long section of the SpringwaterTrail.
All other streets will be open for
vehicular traffic.
A M etro mini disc golf course
will be set up in Ed Benedict Park,
Kaiser Permanente and Play works
will be at the Kids Fair at Gilbert
Heights Park, dance classes are
scheduled all day by Portland
Parks and Recreation, and soccer
skills and tournam ent activities
will be at Bloom ington Park.
The public should expect traf­
fic control changes in the vicinity
o f the event and be aware of in­
creased num bers of pedestrians
and bicyclists. Residents will have
access to their hom es and can
cross the route at the designated
intersections.
