munity involvement and leadership.
Each meeting or activity embodies
themes that are discussed and pro
moted like self-discovery, overcom
ing challenges and empowerment.
The skills learned go well beyond
their entire high school years to
college and beyond.
Young ladies take a pledge
amongst their peers from high schools
across the Portland and surrounding
areas. They get a chance to not only
network with those they may have
never met, but enhance the respect of
others. They learn to accept no less
than in academic achievements and
leadership ability.
This long-standing program to
enrich the lives of youth is a testa
ment to the successful development
and social responsibility among
young people. One of the many
goals that are accomplished is to be
liaisons to the young ladies. As
mentors, they become skilled in
abundant genres of life skills. For
example, their knowledge of African
American history is taught as well
as enhanced. In order to promote
positive growth and development,
the young women make personal
pledges toward not just pursuing
goals, but making sure they are on
positive paths.
Les Femmes members celebrate
that they are making their presence,
honor and future destinies known.
The young members embody cour
age and character. Social responsi
bility is taught and encouraged.
Each student in the organization
marks the beginning of a new jour
ney, a journey from adolescent to
young-adulthood.
