Robber Hits U S Bank at Interstate/Going
P ortland Police responded to a
bank robbery last T hursday around
5 p.m . at the LJ.S. B ank branch at
N orth Interstate and G oing Street.
O fficers arrived and learned that
the suspect left on foot in an un­

m and note and obtained an undis­

Fights Lockdown Prison
T he O regon State Penitentiary was
placed on L ockdow n on Sunday
after m ultiple inm ate fights, one in ­
volving 75 prisoners, w hich erupted
throughout the in stitu tio n ’s recre­
ation building. G uards used achem i-
cal spray and fired a w arning shot to
bring the d isturbance under co n ­
trol. Several staffers and inm ates
received m inor injuries, and all ac­
tivities and visitation w ere canceled.
Stranger Approaches Girls
Parents in northeast P ortland are on
alert after a stranger approached
tw o girls for the second tim e this
y ear on A lam eda Street. T he first
one took place in January and then
again this last Friday. W itnesses
said a m an in his 20s approached the
tw o m iddle school girls. H e is d e ­
scribed as H ispanic and possibly
driving a sm all w hite sedan.

Woman Kills Eugene Cop
H undreds o f Eugene residents at­
tended a candlelight vigil on Satur­
day for a police officer w ho was shot
and killed during a traffic stop. Officer
Chris Kilcullen chased the car down
in Springfield Friday before the driver,
56-year-old Cheryl Kidd o f Spring-
field, pointed a gun at him and fired.
Kilcullen was 43 years old, and left
behind a w ife and tw o children.
