Ma Rainey s Black Bottom -- Julianne Johnson stars in the Portland
Playhouse production of Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, a
play about the legendary blues singer known for both
her music and her attitude. The story by Pulitzer Prize
playwright August Wilson is set during the Chicago
Black Renaissance. Shows have been extended through
the month of May, at Portland Playhouse, 602 N.E.

Sorid Lives -- A choose your own adventure soap opera featuring the
Opera Theater Oregon Technicolor Orchestra and Chorus. Benefit and
housewarming for the Opera Theater’s new residency at the Mission
Theater, Friday, May 6. One night only at the Mission Theater, 1624 N. W.
Glisan St. Tickets $ 15.
Norman Sylvester Band - Boogie Cat Norman Sylvester and his band
perform Friday, April 29 at Trails End in Oregon City; and Friday, May 6
at Leo’s Lair in Cornelius.
Ceramic Showcase - The Oregon Potters Association and the Ceramic
Showcase present the Gathering of the Guilds,” the largest clay show in
the U.S., Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1 at the Oregon Conven­
tion Center. The free admission show also features work from a variety of
art guilds including creative metal, glass, woodworking, beads and
handweaving arts.
Mel Brown Live - Portland jazz giant Mel Brown performs at Salty’s on
the Columbia every Friday and Saturday night. Known as the “Gentleman
of Jazz,” Brown has a career spanning over 40 years.
Curious George: Let’s Get Curious! - Portland
Children’s Museum exhibit introduces children to the
world of that unforgettably nosey monkey Curious
George, leading visitors on a fun, interactive math,
science and engineering-based adventure. Show runs
through June 5.
