“ Black rhinos are am ong the m ost
endangered m am m als on the planet,”
said Kim Sm ith, O regon Z oo d irec­
tor. "W e are thrilled and privileged
to be given an opportunity to p ro ­
m ote the survival o f these am azing
c re a tu re s.”

poaching have pushed the species
to the brink o f extinction. T he w orld
population o f black rhinos has plum ­
m eted from an estim ated 65,000 in
1970 to few er than 3,700 today.
