ture explores and honors the m any
strengths o f w om en. She begins
w ith a m alleable lum p o f clay and
builds gradually, layer upon layer,
until the structure is strong enough
to acquire glaze patinas and w ithold
several firings.

Somali Art
and Culture
The last Friday of the month
will be an evening celebrating
our new Somali neighbors.
Colored Pencils Art and Cul­
ture night, also known as
Portland's multicultural family
room, hosts monthly celebra­
tions focusing on the city’s di­
verse populations to build a bet­
ter community.
The upcoming event, March
25 at the Multnomah Arts Cen­
ter, will run from 6 p.m. to 9
p.m., and feature Somali cui­
sine by Jaziira Cafe, a fine arts
exhibit and reception, as well as
traditional and contemporary
African, Asian, Arab, Native and
settled American performers
and musical artists.
The cost is free to kids, stu­
dents, and seniors, with a $10
suggested donation for others.
The arts center is located at
