Shiva is a scientist and activist on issues of agricul­
ture and tood, bioethics, globalization, gender and the
worldwide im pacts o f clim ate change.
She is the founder and director o f a netw ork of seed
keepers and organic producers spread across 16 states
in India that has helped set up 54 com m unity seed
banks, trained more than 500,000 farm ers in seed and
food sovereignty, and sustainable farming.
