weekend at the Alaska Airlines/Horizon Air Portland Jazz Festival

The eig h t-p iece a ll-star e n ­
sem ble, SFJA ZZ Collective, will
present the world-prem iere of rep­
ertoire from "SFJAZZ C ollective
Plays Stevie W onder" on Satur­
day, Feb. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the
Newm ark Theater, downtown.
The next day, Joshua Redman -
the founder and form er leader of
the SFJAZZ Collective - will show­
case his quartet on Sunday, Feb.
27 at 2 p.m., also at the Newm ark
Theatre.
The perform ances are in con­
junction with the Portland Jazz
Festival sponsored by A laska

sented by US Bank.

claim ed and charism atic jazz art­
ists to have em erged in the de­
cade of the 1990s. The son of
legendary African American saxo­
phonist Dewey Redman and Jew-
ish A m e ric a n d a n c e r R enee
Shedroff, he has perform ed with
such esteem ed artists as Chick
Corea, Pat M etheny, and Brad
M ehldau, as well as a new w ork­
ing quartet, "James Farm," which
infuses traditional acoustic jazz
quartet instrum entation with a
progressive attitude and modern
sound.
