Doug Elkins has long been rec
ognized for his willingness to em
brace and integrate diverse choreo
graphic styles from around the globe,
“melding every kind of dance tech
nique you can think o f ’ and making
“breaking and ballet look like obvi
ous bedfellows.” (The New York
Times). Elkins was inspired to cre
ate Fraulein Maria after countless
viewings of the timeless movie clas
sic The Sound of Music with his
young children.
