United Way brings
together 2,000 volunteers
U nited W ay o f the C o lu m b ia-W illam ette hosts its 4th annual
M artin L uther K ing Jr. W eekend o f S ervice from Friday, Jan. 14
through the M LK holiday on M onday, Jan. 17.
U nited W ay has invited over 2,000 com m unity m em bers to
volunteer for the event in ho n o r o f Dr. M artin L uther King
Jr.'s legacy o f purposeful com m unity engagem ent.
V olunteers w ill w ork on projects at area nonprofits
throughout the four C ounties o f C lackam as, M ultnom ah
and W ashington counties in Portland and C lark C ounty
in V ancouver.
From helping co v er library books, serving a m eal
at senior center, to planting trees at a local park;
projects are available fo r people o f all ages and
abilities.
The w ork o f 2,(XX) volunteers can potentially be
valued at over $ 150,(XX) worth o f direct service to the
com m unity.
