Oct. 6 - Aneshka Colas-Dickson, a young African-American woman
who has made her mark in the local construction industry is voted in
as the newest member of the Portland Development Commission.
Colas-Dickson will be in a position to influence the city’s urban
renewal and housing landscape.
Oct. 20 - The national
spotlight shines on the
University of Oregon when
the football team becomes the
No. 1 rated team in the
country. The Ducks finished
the season 12-0 will play for
the national championship on
Jan. 10.
Two Eras; Two Legends
Nov. 3 - Portland greats M aurice Lucas, a five-tim e NBA A ll-Star
who helped lead the Blazers to the NBA C ham pionship in 1977;
and Artie W ilson, a legend of the Negro Am erican and Pacific
Coast Leagues, including the Portland Beavers are m em orialized
after their deaths on the same day. Lucas died at the age o f 58
from bladder cancer. W ilson was 90.

Dec. 8 - In Other Words, the only non-profit of 30
feminist bookstores in the country, slips into a
serious financial bind. But with a sense of urgency,
supporters help bring a community focus to the
northeast Portland center and replace lost textbook
sales through grants and individual donations.

Nov. 10 - For the first time, local residents
in 28 districts will be billed for the leaf
pickups by city transportation crews
which keep streets clear from hazards and
unblock storm water drains.

Dec. 15 - A Portland company wins approval to operate a recycling facility
on Northeast Columbia Boulevard that will turn food waste into electricity,
but neighbors have concerns because the last effort at green industry at
the site caused a foul odor to drift over neighboring homes.

until about 3 a.m.

After Red Line service ends, a shuttle bus will carry riders
