The celebration takes place on
Wednesday, Dec. 29 from 5 p.m. to
7 p.m. in the City Hall Atrium.
Kwanzaa, the African American
and Pan African holiday, is cel­
ebrated from Dec. 26 through Jan, 1.
Rooted in the first harvest festivi­
ties of Africa, Kwanzaa is derived
from the Swahili phrase “matunda
ya wanza” meaning “first fruits,”
and began in the U. S. as a weeklong
celebration of family, community
and culture.
