He served his country by first joining the U. S. Army, and then enlisted in the Air Force on June 5, 1967. He retired on June 4,1971 receiving an Honorable Discharge from both military organizations. He leaves to cherish memories, a son Clayton Gruber of Portland, a daughter Rebecca Gruber, three grandchil­ dren, and other friends and rela­ tives.
