Vancouver Concert Series begins on Sunday, Dec. 5 at 2 p.m. with a performance of George Frederic Handel’s Messiah: an Oratorio. The opening event features the 60-voice Bravo! Vancouver Cho­ rale, 17-piece Washington Cham­ ber Orchestra and guest soloists. The concert will be conducted by Maria Manzo. The concert will he held at St. Joseph Church in Vancouver, 400 S. Andresen Road. George Handel composed Mes­ siah in the summer of 1741 in an astonishing 24 days. It is- recog­ nized by most music scholars as the Baroque era com poser's greatest choral masterpiece, and is one of the m ost-perform ed— and most be­ loved— pieces of choral music in the world. H andel's fam ous m elodies and dram atic setting o f the Biblical texts brings to life the story o f the birth, life, death and resurrection o f Jesus Christ. The Bravo! Vancouver Chorale has toured both nationally and in­ ternationally. In June 2009, the Cho­ rale traveled to Croatia at the invita­ tion of the City of Dubrovnik to perform with the internationally ac­ claimed Dubrovnik Symphony Or­ chestra. The Chorale has toured the east coast and performed at Lincoln Cen­ ter with the Duke Ellington School of the Arts Jazz Orchestra; and has per­ formed concert partnerships with Portland Opera, Seattle Jazz Singers, Washington State Ballet, Sno-King Chorale, and other arts organizations.
