The Oregon History Museum pre­
sents its newest exhibit Arte en la
Charreria: The Artisanship of the Mexican Equestrian
Culture. Over 300 stunning objects, many dating from
the late 1800s, offer a unique view of the culture
surrounding the charro or Mexican cowboy.

chological and social elements in

tions of personal identity.

fall, the Hoffman Gallery of Con­
temporary Art at Lewis & Clark
College presents an exhibit inves­
tigating the work of Alison Saar,
the artist who recently created a
campus sculpture of York, the slave
in the Lewis & Clark expedition.
Saar is known for her emotionally
candid exploration of African cul­
ture. The gallery is open Tuesday,
through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Vocalist Jenna Mammina is set to
perform in duo with guitarist Stephen
Salerno at Tony Starlight's Supper

The performance is part of a new
monthly jazz series, PDX Jazz @
Tony Starlight's, the presenting or­
ganization of the Alaska Airlines/
Horizon Air Portland Jazz Festival.
Hailing from Michigan, home to
luminary vocal legends like Aretha
Franklin, Betty Carter, and her men­
tor, Abbey Lincoln, Mammina's
mixed heritage household and neigh­
borhood surrounded her with a vast
array of diverse culture and music.
She was recognized as one of the
leading women of jazz and pop
crossover for three years in a row by
Jazziz Magazine.
