Discipline for Nazi-era Tribute
Police captain suspended 80 hours without pay
A Portland police captain w ho
nailed plaques in tribute to N azi-era
G erm an soldiers to a tree on the east
side o f R ocky B utte Park w as sus-
pended T uesday for 80 hours w ith-
w as w as spurred by C ity C om m is-
sioner D an Saltzm an earlier this year
w hen he w as o verseeing the police
bureau.

K ruger w ere im posed by C h ief M ike
R eese T uesday after a police inves-
tig a tio n o fa 10 y ear old incident that
M ayor Sam A dam s signed on to the
discip lin ary action.
K ruger w rote a letter o f apology
to the chief, the p olice bureau, the
city council and co m m u n ity m em -
bers, saying his tribute w as an ex-
pression o f his interest in m ilitary
history and that he reg retted the
m isperception that a salute to a so l­
dier from N azi G erm an y co u ld in­
voke.

plaques and given them to the city
atto rn e y ’s office several years ago
w hile facing law suits alleging e x ­
c essiv e fo rce d u rin g d o w n to w n
an ti-w ar protests.
