A photography exhibit at the World Forestry Center spotlights polar bears and climate change.
The Last Polar Bear: Facing
the truth of a warming world
The World Forestry Center Dis
covery Museum’s new environmen
tal photography exhibit, The Last
Polar Bear: Facing the Truth of a
Warming World, brings to life the
d ev astating urgency o f global
warming’s impact on the Arctic as
documented by the dramatic polar
bear images by accomplished wild
life photographer Steven Kazlowski.
Kazlowski has dedicated more
than eight years to tracking and
photographing polar bears in their
rarely visited and seldom photo
graphed natural environment, docu
menting the change in their habitat
and behavior over time. In The Last
Polar Bear, 40 large-format color
photographs reveal the plight of the
polar bear as it faces rapid change in
its Arctic coastal habitat from
Hershel Island in Canada to Point
Hope, Alaska.
Visitors to the exhibit will follow
the path of these alpha-predators,
learning about the unique biology
of the polar bear and the Arctic web
of life to which they belong. Inti
mate images portray the bears’ an
nual cycle of life from mothers with
cubs to adolescents at play to adults
on the hunt. Film footage of wild
polar bears by independent film
maker Arthur C. Smith, III augment
the photos on display.
The exhibit will be on view
through Jan. 2. For more informa
tion, call 503-228-1367 or visit
