Y ou’re invited to attend an inform ational m eeting to apply for m em bership with the Les Femmes D ebutantes, a local organization that works to em power young women to accom ­ plish and achieve. On Sunday, Nov. 14, female stu­ dents and their parents or guard­ ians will gather at the Emanuel H ospital L orenzen C onference Center auditorium, 301 N. Graham St., from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to provide inform ation about this prominent, popular and prestigious group. Find out how Les Fem m es makes their presence known with year-long peer activities, outings, com m unity involvement, and aca­ demic and social achievem ents. Learn how fem ale students grow from young p eo p le to young adults. The event will provide in­ form ation about the Debutante and Junior D ebutante calendar events and more. Les Femmes members empower one another with m entorship pro­ gram s that instill etiquette, deco­ rum and dignity and foster being role models for their communities. The girls attended m eetings in which they unite in harm ony to participate in leadership, social skills, self-esteem and etiquette w orkshops. This long-standing program to enrich the lives of youth is a tes­ tam ent to the successful develop­ m ent and social responsibility among young people. One o f the many goals that are accom plished is to be liaisons to the young la­ dies. As m entors, they becom e skilled in abundant genres o f life skills. For exam ple, their know l­ edge o f African Am erican history is taught as well as enhanced. In order to prom ote positive growth and d e v e lo p m e n t, the young wom en make personal pledges tow ard not ju st pursuing goals, but m aking sure they are on posi­ tive paths.
