Boogie Cat’s
Birthday Cause
N orm an “The B oogie C a t”
Sylvester will celebrate his 65th
birthday with a concert that pays
tribute to the Diabetes Association's
Tour De Cure!
Like most people, Sylvester
knows many friends, family and
musicians that have diabetes. His
childhood friend and guitar mentor
Isaac Scott lost his life way too early
due to related complications of the
disease.
The band's keyboard player,
Frankie Redding has also been fight
ing diabetes. The "Funk Master"
Frankie is going strong after a blue’s
fan donated one of her kidneys to
him several years ago.
These examples, one tragic and
one inspiring, are why Sylvester
would like to bring awareness and
contribute band tips for the birth
day concert to the Tour de Cure
cycling event that took place on

Rail Car Jobs Coming
A spike in orders for the G reen
brier Cos. after a tw o-year slump
is adding 260 new rail car m anu
facturing jobs at the Gunderson
plant on Swan Island in north
Portland.
Lake Oswego-based Greenbrier
says it has $ 130 million in orders for
new rail cars, including more than
1,000 new double-stack intermodal
platforms and 700 new covered hop
per cars.
Workers at Gunderson and other
Greenbrier yards will also modify
1,100 more double-stack platforms,
lengthening them to 53 feet, which
allows shippers to increase cargo
volumes and better compete with
truckers for freight traffic.
Greenbrier said it will shift 175
marine barge manufacturing jobs at
Gunderson to railcar construction
because demand has weakened for
barges.
