people and hanging out w ith gangs,"

tried p ro stitution-free and drug-free
zones that banish anyone from them
that is suspected o f the prohibited
activity. H e said that such individu­
als ju s t m igrate elsew here, and a
b etter ap p ro ach has been to get
them into treatm ent.
"M y issue, and m y sole issue, is
w hat I don't like to see us do is m ake
one co m m u n ity feel b etter to the
expense o f an o th er com m unity," he
said.

voting w ith the rest o f C ity C ouncil
in favor o f the o rdinance given the
com m u n ity 's unique challenges.

She said that a shooting occurred
in front o f her house in the park. She
later found ou t the people involved
didn't live in N ew C olum bia, and
w ants the park to rem ain safe.
N ick Fish, the co m m issio n er in
charge o f the park s bureau, said he
appreciated the co n cerns raised by
Leonard, and w ould report back to
C ity C ouncil in six m onths on how
the exclusion is w orking.
