Antique Cars
and Airplanes
Vancouver hosts weekend shows
Tw o w eek en d ev en ts in
Vancouver will feature rare collec­
tions o f antique cars and airplanes,
including for the first time the pres­
tigious Concours d ’Elegance.
Unique antique and vintage air­
planes from across the country will
be on display Friday, Aug. 20
through Sunday, Aug. 22 at the
historic Pearson Airfield. Partici­
pants can see more than 200 planes
and meet the pilots, then visit the
adjacent Pearson Air Museum for a
glimpse into “The Golden Age of
Aviation.” Admission to the North­
west Antique Aircraft Association’s
fly-in is $8 for adults and $5 for
children 6-12 (under 6 are free).
Admission to the museum is $7 for
adults and $5 for children 6-17 (un­
der 6 are free). For more information,

Concours d ’Elegance has se­
lected Vancouver for its showcase
o f classic cars.
The Sunday, Aug. 22 event is
held from 9 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. at Fort
Vancouver. View rare autos includ­
ing exotic cars like Ferraris and Alfa
Romeos, along with antique cars
such as Ford’s Model T. More than
200 cars will be parked along the
scenic Officers Row in downtown

Robert Wilson
Gap Band
Bassist
Remembered
Robert Wilson, the bassist for
the funk and R&B group the Gap
Band, has died. He was 53.
His death on Sunday in Los
Angles was confirmed by Karen
Lee, publicist for his brother and
Gap Band singer Charlie Wilson.
Robert Wilson had been touring
over the past few weeks, including
a stop in his hometown in Tulsa,
Okla.
Wilson provided the bass back­
bone for the trio, which also in­
cluded another brother, Ronnie.
They rocketed to stardom in the
1980s with hits like "Outstanding,"
" You Dropped a Bomb On Me" and
"Yearning for Your Love."
