Ben Franklin: Unplugged
Josh Kornbluth's comic autobiography was inspired
when the monologist and fringe theater performer
looked into his bathroom mirror and discovered a
startling resemble to Ben Franklin. The warmly
comic production runs through Nov. 22 at Portland
Center Stage.
OMSI’s Science of Fear:
Dare to wear bee beard
Are you brave enough to wear a colony
of 5,(XX) honeybees on your face?! In con­
junction with its new exhibit Scream! Fea­
turing Goose Bumps! The Science of Fear,
the Oregon Museum of Science and In­
dustry (OMS1) invites visitors to test their
courage and enter for a chance to wear a
beard o f live bees.
Three w inners will be chosen to wear
the beard o f bees at OMS1 on Saturday,
Oct. 31 at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m., and 2 p.m.
The Beard o f Bees event will take place
in the OM SI auditorium and is free and
open to the public.

teers will be selected to participate.

Bee M aster and Honeybee Technologist
John G ibeau will apply the beard o f bees
onto the participants and explain how it
w orks and why it is safe.
G ibeau has wrangled bees on dozens of
m ovie sets and is a highly experienced bee­
keeper.
To get the bees on a person's face, the
participant wears a necklace with a small
plastic cage attached. Inside the cage are
the queen bee and a vial o f "orientation" A beard o f honeybees is a test o f
overcoming fear for a young participant.

goodies and learn more about w ildlife, on H alloween, Saturday,
Oct. 31 and Sunday, Nov. 1 at the O regon Zoo. The event runs
both days from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. A scavenger hunt will be
educational as well as fun.
O ld F ash ion ed H o-D ow n - C a m i val games, a raf fle and Hallow­
een craft tables for the whole family will be part o f the fun at an
O ld Fashioned Halloween Ho-D ow n from noon to 4 p.m. at
D isjecta, 8371 N. Interstate Ave. Proceeds to benefit C hief
Joseph Elem entary. At 9 p.m., a H alloween dance for those 21
and over will begin.

the 1 Oth annual G reat Pum pkin harvest celebration, on H allow ­
een, Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the South Park
Blocks at Portland State University. There will be a pum pkin
carving contest, children’s costum e parade and live entertain­
ment.
