Timberline Dodge, located across Sandy Boulevard from KATU in north east Portland, got the news Thursday. The dealership has been in operation for over 80 years. Alex Laws said his grandfather started the business in 1938 and he intends to fight the closure by using an appeals process. "We don't go away easy. I plan to fight this," Laws told KATU News. He said it will be business as usual and the doors will remain open while he navigates the appeals process. Before Alex, Art Laws, the guy in the "Eat My Hat" images, ran the deal ership. Alex Laws said he informed department heads Thursday morning when the list of closures was released from Chrysler. M ean w h ile, R obb W alther at Lanphere Enterprises, which com prises several dealerships across mul tiple brands of cars and motorcycles, said their firm was not on the list. He expressed surprise that the Timberline dealership made the list. H ow ever, he cau tio n ed that Lanphere and other dealers were not out of the woods yet, since Chrysler will be selling all their assets into an other company under their bankruptcy plan, and there is no guarantee they will be on a forthcoming "approved" list of dealers. No timetable for that list has yet been released. The other local dealership slated for closure is Gresham Chrysler - Jeep in Gresham. GM is also eliminating about 1,100 dealers nationwide in a restructuring plan. But so far, any local dealers that might be impacted have not been an nounced.
