The 2009 D odge C hallenger is not ju st a blast from the past it will take you back to with the Hemi V8 power, rear-wheel drive and the right sound roaring from its rect­ angular exhausts. This 2(X)9 Dodge Challenger SRT8 has a 6. IL HEMI V 8that is good for 425 growling horses. H ooking that engine up to the o p tio n a l s ix - s p e e d m a n u a l tran sm issio n is a recipe that w orks well together. The howl from the engine, the optional 255/45ZR2O rear tires squealing and the 3.92 axle ratio locking everything together will have you blasting from stop light to stop light, w hile other men and w om en in M ustangs can only hang their head as you blow past them. The C hallenger handles itself well, with minimal body roll and a surprisingly com fortable ride. Braking is up to the task as well. Her father turned around and told her, “O ne thing you better do is you better leant to appreciate everything and learn something from it.” “D o n 't lim it yourself to any­ thing,” is the lesson she took aw ay from the experience. In Loving M’emory Cartez Penix at 100 Cartez Penix was bom Jan. 6, 1909, to G eorge and Fannie Penix in Bearden, Ark. He was the youngest o f 12 children and the last survivor. He w as baptized at age 16 at Mt. Aerie M ethodist Church in Arkansas. As he grew up his m ama gave the nickname o f “Bow" w hich stuck with him to this day, he has several nieces and nephew s that call him “Uncle Bow." C artez m arried Floy G ibson in 1934 and one child was bom to that union. C artez had strong w ork ethics and traveled to M issouri, Calif, and Nevada before settling in Vanport City, Ore. in 1944 with his wife and daughter. He ow ned and operated a small grocery store for 10 years, and worked at W. L. M ay Co. for about 25 years. His wife o f 34 years passed aw ay in 1969. Cartez was a m em ber o f St. Andrew United Church of Christ under the lead­ ership o f the late Rev. Cortlandt Cam bric when it merged with Ainsworth United Church o f Christ. He was a faithful m em ber and served on the board o f trustees, and also served on the usher board. He married Shelly Mae Blanton in 1979 and continued to work well into his 80s hauling scrap iron. W hen he departed this life on April 24, 2(X)9, he was the patriarch o f six generations. Cherishing his memory and celebrating his life are his wife Shelly Mae; his daughter C arolyn (Charles) Hinton; his step-son Benny Blanton; his grand­ daughters: Sandra (M ichael) Robinson, Janice M inor and Barbara Hinton; his step-grandsons: Q uincy Blanton, Quinton Blanton and Q uindrae Blanton; his great-grandchildren: D emond Harris, Alnishea Minor, Alfred (A.J.) M i­ nor, Chailen Burton, Sham iqua Hinton and JaRacia Minor; 13 great-great grandchildren, and one great-great great grandchild. He also leaves behind nieces and nephews that supported him with love during his last days: Jean Scott, Joann (Andrew) Childs, G eorge Throw er and Billie Jean Smith, all o f Portland and Vancouver; as well as many other family m em bers, friends, church m em bers and neighbors. O ur dear beloved C artez will be missed more than w ords can say. His services were held May I at Ainsworth United Church o f Christ.
