Nine months following his impres

Oscar De La Hoya, Portland’s best
known boxer and former International
Boxing Federation super feather
weight champion, Steve Forbes (33-

Vancouver, Friday, March 6 at Spirit
Mountain Casino in Grand Ronde, in
a 10-round welterweight main event.
Also coming back to Oregon - for
the first time since defending his light
heavyweight world title in the Rose
Garden seven years ago — is 8-time
world champion Roy Jones Jr., who is
p ro m o tin g the se v e n -fig h t card
through his company, Square Ring,
Inc. and will be ringside for all the
action.
Called “Border War", the Forbes/
Davis clash is just one of three fights
on the slate featuring Oregon boxers
taking on opponents from Washing
ton.
Forbes, 31, stood his ground and
fought gallantly in going 12 grueling
rounds against legendary superstar
De La Hoya who has won 10 world
titles in six weight divisions. A l
though he succumbed to De La Hoya
by unanimous decision, Forbes re
ceived widespread praise from box
ing fans and pundits, alike. The du-
Steve Forbes is Portland’s best known boxer and a former super featherweight champion.
rable, hard-hitting Forbes has gone
the full distance in his last eight con
tests and this will be his first appear
ance back in Oregon since Nov. 19,
2005 when he stopped Julio Cesar
Sanchez Leon in the third round at
the Rose Garden.
Gunning for his first world title belt,
Forbes was turned back in a 12-round
brawl against Andre Berto for the
World Boxing Council welterweight
title on Sept. 27,2008 in Los Angeles.
Davis, 26, is a rising rival from
across the Columbia River who has
great skills, balance and is a relent
less attacker. He made his pro debut
in 2005 and has primarily fought at
casinos in Washington.
Davis will be making his first ever
appearance in Oregon against Forbes
and is eager to score a signature win
and emerge as the Portland region’s top
boxing prospect. In his last outing, he
dropped a 10-round decision to Der
rick Samuels for the North American
Boxing Association U.S. Light Welter
